professional

I am a Professional Interactive designer, amateur film maker, illustrator, Jazz musicologist, pop culture anthropologist, and audiophile from Dallas, Texas. I’m am co-founder of Abidesco (Abilene Design Collective) and senior interactive designer at NBC ArtWorks.
I’ve worked for clients such as Microsoft, Dell, Electronic Arts, Abilene Christian University and Gameinformer Magazine to name a few. The focus of my work is UI design and front-end development for the web, but in addition I do/you’ll find examples of my video production, print design and illustration. If you’d like to see my resume you can find it here.
a little history
Using the tools available to me, my Packard Bell, Microsoft Front Page Express, and GeoCities, I designed and “developed” my first web site: a Ken Griffey, Jr. tribute site. Many similar projects would follow, one honoring alto-sax player and be-bopper Charlie Parker and eventually my first online portfolio site in 2002. I played saxophone and at the time I was quite involved in jazz performance and would practice 3-4 hours a day. All-the-while I took as many art classes as I could.
After high school I had a hard decision to make, Jazz studies or design. I was torn. Eventually I found my way to Abilene Christian University, where I did my best to do both. There I studied graphic design, and kept up my Jazz chops up by performing in ACU’s Jazz Orchestra and various Jazz improvisation combos. Having had roommates that were in various bands, I became involved in the local music scene in Abilene. Eventually, collaborating with a few friends, including a couple ACU design alumni we started A Silence Production, LLC.. We were a record label (Murkville Music), video production company, design studio and concert promoter. We ran our own venue in Abilene and got a crash-course education on the music business along the way. Eventually we were booking as many as 2 shows a weeks with touring artists such as The Album Leaf and Owen Pallet.
Silence became a great creative outlet for me, so when I graduated from ACU in 2006 with my BFA in Graphic Design, I took at job at ACU working for it’s internal Creative Services department as a Graphic Designer. At ACU I did everything from print design to video production, while my work with Silence was going full-force. Eventually, I met a girl; she moved from Abilene to Dallas. I convinced my boss that I could do my job just as well from Dallas, and moved there. A couple years later we got married.
While in Dallas, I developed an interest in UI design and development, and took a job at Telligent. And the rest in history.
Colophon
This site is most certainly a work in progress. I designed and developed it myself in WordPress, using Adobe Fireworks, Coda, Type Kit and a sketch pad. Please pardon the mess this site will continue to grow and evolve until I’m happy with it, or until I get tired of it and it gets redesigned; which ever comes first.
